I am a psychiatrist (MIR: 2015-2020) and hold a PhD in biomedicine and clinical research from the University of Seville. My thesis received international mention and cum laude honors. I have completed a Río Hortega contract (CM20/00015) and currently hold a Juan Rodés contract (JR22/00075). Additionally, I completed a specialty in Family and Community Medicine (2010-2014) at the Hospital Virgen del Rocio in Seville. I am a member of the Translational Psychiatry group, led by Dr. Benedicto Crespo Facorro. As a principal investigator, I am involved in two projects: one focuses on prenatal stress associated with the pandemic and COVID-19 infection in pregnant women and its impact on neurodevelopment (PECOVID-0195-2020), and the other involves collaborating as a node PI in the national personalized medicine project (PMP21/00051) on autism. The latter project, titled “Comprehensive study of genetic and molecular variation in a Spanish autism cohort and design of genetic diagnostic algorithms and therapeutic biotypes,” is coordinated by the Gregorio Marañón Hospital. I also participate in seven public and competitive research projects funded by the Carlos III Spain National Health Institute. Likewise I take an active role in “menteScopia”, a multimedia outreach initiative to raise mental health awareness among youngsters funded in three different editions FCT-20-16227, FCT-21-17004 y FCT-22-17694 by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECyT), which has garnered significant attention in national and international media and social networks. All of the aforementioned projects are currently active. In 2021, I completed a stay at the Andalusian Center for Developmental Biology, specifically in the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Group, which is part of the María Maeztu Unit of Excellence and the alliance of Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu centers. Furthermore, I have completed clinical rotations through the Hippokrates program for family physicians, including rotations in primary care in Zurich (2013) and London (2013), as well as child psychiatry in Chicago (2018). During my medical studies, I also had a clinical rotation at the Molecular Biology Laboratory in Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. Currently, I work in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit at Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville, specializing in complex cases of ASD and its comorbidities. During my Rio Hortega contract, I actively contributed to implementing the mental health care protocol for patients with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the Virgen del Rocio area. I am currently enrolled in the course “Expert in Genomic Medicine and Genetic Counseling.” My objectives are as follows: i) To strengthen the research line in neurodevelopment and genomic studies, focusing on cohorts of OCD, Tourette’s syndrome, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Virgen del Rocío area. ii) To identify genetic and epigenetic biomarkers associated with different phenotypes in neurodevelopmental disorders. iii) To establish a research line that can be seamlessly integrated into the context of healthcare practice.
